Reported by Prof. Yaqian Zhao (Regional Coordinator for China, SG "Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control", IWA)
2022 Online Training Course for Advanced Research & Development of Constructed Wetland Wastewater Treatment Technology was held on 19-22 July 2022 in China
This online training course was organised by the leading Chinese journal of “China Water and Wastewater” (http://www.cnww1985.com) to meet the need of constructed wetland (CW) popularity in recent years in China. Indeed, CW is an environmentally friendly "green" wastewater treatment technology. It is widely used in various wastewater treatment projects because of its good economy, low energy requirement and easy management. In recent years, the combination of CW with ecology and landscape design makes it a nearly perfect means of wastewater ecological treatment. It becomes widely used in wastewater treatment projects in rural areas, towns, residential areas and industrial development zones, as well as expansion and upgrading of existing wastewater treatment facilities, and even large-scale pollution control and ecological restoration projects of rivers and lakes. In addition, CW is one of the main technologies for the construction of “sponge city”, the management of black and smelly water bodies, and the realization of the goal of reducing carbon releasing scheme in China. However, the further extensive application of this technology still needs to strengthen the theoretical and technical support to cultivate a large number of senior engineering and technical talents for proper application of this technology.
As such, in order to help relevant engineering technicians and management personnel engaged in CW technology systematically understand and master the latest research progress of CW technology, to improve the technical level of CW engineering, to optimize the quality of construction, and to build a technical exchange platform for CW technology, China Water and Wastewater (Journal) invites the Chinese leading experts in the field of CW to deliver lectures on CW treatment theory, engineering design and experience of operation management, and key technical issues of research and development, etc.
The lecture consortium was consisted of 14 CW experts including Prof. Yaqian Zhao (Xi’an University of Technology) and Prof. Jun Zhai (Chongqing University), both are Regional Coordinator for China, SG "Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control", IWA, Prof. Yi Chen (Chongqing University), the YWP Regional Coordinator for China, SG "Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control", IWA as well. The lecture consortium also has Prof. Lei Yang (National Sun Yat-Sen University); Prof. Yang Yang (Jinan University); Prof. Shuiping Cheng (Tongji University); Prof. Xinshan Song (Donghua University); Prof. Hailiang Song (Nanjing Normal University); Prof. Hui Zhu (Chinese Academy of Sciences); Prof. Haiming Wu (Shandong University); Prof. Zhongbing Chen (Czech University of Life Sciences Prague); Dr Tao Meng (North China Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute CO., LTD.); Dr Jing Lin (Shenzhen Biyuan Environmental Protection Technic CO., LTD), and Dr Bin Ji (Yantai University) (Fig. 1). Mr Lingquan Wang, the journal manager, chaired the training course, while nearly 200 participants across China attended the four-day course. No doubt, it was a big event and will promote the CW R&D and large scale application in China.
