中国科学院院士,第三世界科学院院士和英国皇家化学学会院士。

主要从事环境化学和毒理与健康研究。1982年1月毕业于山东大学化学系,1987-1991年在中科院生态环境研究中心获硕士和博士学位。1989-1991年和1994-1996年分别在加拿大国家研究院和比利时安特卫普大学作访问学者和博士后研究。现任环境化学与生态毒理学国家重点实验室主任,中国分析测试协会理事长,国际著名杂志Environmental Science & Technology副主编。在加拿大Alberta大学、香港大学、北京大学等多所国内外大学任荣誉教授及兼职教授。

研究领域涉及化学形态、分析仪器、环境过程与毒理、环境应用及效应,在持久性有机污染物(POPs)、有机金属化合物和纳米材料领域贡献卓著。其本人任两期POPs 973项目首席科学家,国家基金委重大基金和创新群体负责人,国家973顾问组成员,国家纳米重大研究计划专家组成员,国家环境咨询委员会委员以及国家食品安全风险评估专家委员会委员, 全国政协人口资源环境委员会副主任等。作为新污染物领域的开拓者,他提出并推进了我国持久性有毒污染物的研究,引领了新污染物的研究方向。作为我国重大科研仪器研制的引领者,领导并建成了国际首台高通量多功能成组毒理学分析系统,为环境中未知有毒污染物的筛查及复合效应等的研究提供了全新的技术手段和通用平台,能够强有力地支撑我国环境保护、食品安全及污染风险评估等领域的国家目标。在国际学术期刊上发表论文1000余篇,出版中英文专著20部,应邀在国内外重要学术会议和著名大学作大会报告或特邀报告730余次。曾获国家杰出青年科学基金,“长江学者成就奖”,中科院青年科学家奖,分别于2003、2011和2018年三次获国家自然科学奖,2013年获安捷伦“思想领袖奖”。
